Teaching goals

To impart detailed physical and chemical knowledge of the synthesis, properties, and applications of micro- and nanostructured materials, and metallic glasses.

Summary and outline

The course focuses on the synthesis and processing of microstructured, nanostructured and amorphous metallic materials using wet-chemical and physical routes. It details how unique optical, mechanical, magnetic, and thermal properties are achieved in materials of mesoscopic dimensions. Typical characterization techniques for these materials are presented, together with various applications. Students are also provided with a practical knowledge of the synthesis, processing and characterization of these materials in our laboratories (Lab. of Metal Physics and Technology; Lab. of Multifunctional Materials).
