Changes and improvements on Mail Service on July 14th 2005

Changes

• Authenticated and encrypted connections to the mail server are now mandatory.
• mail.student.ethz.ch must be replaced by mail.ethz.ch

Improvements

• Slightly modified web interface available at  https://mail.ethz.ch/exchange
• New lightweight web interface available at https://mail.ethz.ch/oma
• For mobile mail & calendar clients, we recommend devices with ActiveSync
• @ethz.ch addresses are now available for members of staff
• "Sender Display Name" is now displayed _without_ the comma

Protocols

POP, IMAP or MAPI

• Incomming Server (POP, IMAP, MAPI): mail.ethz.ch
• Outgoing Server (SMTP): mail.ethz.ch
• All Protocols over SSL/TLS (for encrypted Password transmission)

LDAP as Addressbook for Mail Clients

• Anonymus: Hostname: ldap.ethz.ch, BaseDN: o=ethz,c=ch, Port Number: 389
• Authentificated: Hostname: d.ethz.ch, BaseDN: DC=d,DC=ethz,DC=ch, Port Number: 636 (SSL), Bind DN: Username
