Heinz Rüegger received his Diploma and Ph. D. in Chemistry from the ETH Zürich. After post doctoral work at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, he joined the Bruker Company in Switzerland as an application specialist and moved up to become head of the application group. In 1990 he moved back to the ETH Zürich as the responsible for the operation of the NMR facility of the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry. After the retirement of Dr. Peter Skrabal his responsibility was extended to cover the concern of the Department of Materials and the Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering.

Heinz Rüegger died 2009 in a tragic accident.
