Pietro Gambardella appointed Professor
The Department of Materials is happy to announce that on September 26/27, the Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology has appointed Pietro Gambardella, currently Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, as Full Professor of Magnetism and Interface Physics.
Pietro Gambardella investigates how atoms and electrons organize in small-scale structures and seeks to reproduce such mechanisms. His work on one-dimensional atomic chains and nanoparticles has attracted enormous international attention. With the appointment of Pietro Gambardella the Department of Materials further strengthens its research focus in the area of materials systems with new functional properties. Prof. Gambardella will take up office in January 2013.
