Core Courses

The core courses of the Master's degree programme in Materials Science and Engineering cover overarching themes and allow the students to strengthen their fundamental understanding of materials and their characterization.

Students must obtain at least 30 ECTS credit points from the list of core courses. The total number of credit points in the core and elective course category must be 62 ECTS. If more than 30 ECTS credit points are obtained in the core course category, fewer have to be obtained in the elective course category.

In HS 2023 the selection of core courses will change. An overview with short descriptions of the courses can at the moment be found in the following file: Downloadoverview core courses in HS 2023/FS 2024 (PDF, 69 KB). Up-to-date course descriptions can be found once the course catalogue for the next semester is published. The courses are grouped around three thematic areas: dimensionally-constrained materials and phenomena, soft and hybrid materials as well as electronic and magnetic materials.
